Getting Geeky to Stay Cool

pinterest-logoToday is very warm outside and I don’t do well in heat or direct sun, so I have been staying indoors a lot after 8 am until about 7 pm. Then I venture outside to play. (yes, I still call it play)

Today in between the normal housework (sorry for the dirty word) I decided to get a little Geeky and try to learn how to use Pinterest. I have to admit, it was much easier and actually a lot of fun.

I do have to warn you, it is one of those places that you can get lost in. You can check in at 7 am and when you decide the cramp in your left butt cheek means you should stand up, it is 9 pm.

There is always one more pin to check or friend to follow or board to scan. Be careful my friends. It is full of sparkly things and distractions enough to keep you occupied for way more hours that you might like.

Take your time, enjoy your trip and remember it will be there when you come back.

So easily distracted

Me Chef

Several months back my printer bit the dust and I was without one until a couple weeks ago.  During that time I had to hand write all the recipes I found and wanted to try.  This is not a terrible thing, but it was very disorganized. I had recipes scatted all over the place and could never find the one I was looking for. So this morning I decided my main goal for the day was to find all those recipes on the web, print them out and put them in a binder all nice and neat.

All started out well, I had my binder, my 3 hole punch and all the hand written recipes I wanted to print. I printed a few, book is started. Ten minutes gone by and I am already distracted to the kitchen to see if I have certain ingredients on hand for a recipe that caught my eye and sounded good for supper. Of course, going to the kitchen means I see the dishes that need to be done, so I get those ready for the dish washer. When that is done I realize I have not done the laundry yet so I can’t start the dishwasher. So I head off to the laundry room, where I see the empty cat dishes that need to be washed, which leads me back to the kitchen. In the kitchen I notice the trash needs to be taken out because tomorrow is trash day. So I start gathering the trash, which takes me from room to room and each room has it own supply of “distractions”.  So needless to say, a simple task that started a 8 am this morning, is still not quite done 10 hours later.

I was able to complete one task. I finished this drawing and got it in the SBDO.

I worked on it every time I sat down, which is probably why my printing isn’t done yet. Seems like I am twice as easy to distract now days than it was a couple years ago. I will blame it on getting older like I do everything else. When you give that excuse people tend to just smile and nod. Old people get the sympathy vote all the time.

Well, I guess I should finish my book before the next distraction hits. I really want to make it easier to “Get my Betty Crocker On!”.

Well I think I got it

I have been working on my website for over a week now. I must have changed it up about 20 times before I finally liked what I saw, and then another 20 times decorating it with my drawings. (Being able to draw is kind of nice)

I love color, as you can tell, and I wanted to see what strange colors I could make work together. I learned that if you wrap a color in a black outline, 90% of the time it will work with any other color. Black outlines are one of my best friends. I tend to use a thick outline on all my drawings. I think that comes from always wanting to be a cartoonist while growing up. I still don’t like drawing anything that has to look real.

catI also like to use lines as shadows. Something I learn to do as a child and still fall back to it when I get feeling silly and bored. Yes, I am a strange old lady that enjoys doing things that aren’t commonly done. I never was one to go with the crowd, and I still don’t.

Oh, btw, I have 6 cats and 1 very old dog. I don’t say I own them because I don’t think anyone really ever “OWNS” a cat. LOL

They basically allow you to live in their house as long as you feed them.

There is no snooze button on a cat who wants breakfast.

The Little Things

I have always been one of those that tends to “over think” everything. I get frustrated when I can’t fix something I know should be easy, or find the answer that I am looking for. Yes, I stress way to much and over silly things most of the time.

There must be quite a few things that a hot bath won’t cure, but I don’t know many of them. ~Sylvia Plath, The Bell Jar

This quote is so me. When I need to think, calm down, relax or just wake up, I head for the shower. There isn’t a day that I don’t thank the person who decided a shower was as important as a bathtub. Try it sometime, I am sure you will agree. All the stress and worries can go down the drain with the dirty water. You can think easier with warm water running over your body.

Some of my best ideas come when I am in the shower. Now all I have to do is master the art of “remembering” them after I turn the water off.
